Saturday I finished the Seattle to Portland ride. 206 miles in one day. This is the second year I've done it, and this year felt good. I feel that my training went good, and my legs seemed fresh. We averaged 18 MPH, and I felt like we could of gone faster, especially riding in the pace line. The weather turned out great, not as hot as they were predicting, it only got hot as we arrived in Portland. STP is a beautiful ride, great scenery, great food, and lots of other riders which makes this ride a wonderful time.

The Butte to Butte is over for another year. It was a weird day for the race. At about 7:00, an hour before start time, a thundercloud drifted over and it started to rain. And the temperature dropped what seemed like ten degrees. So after two weeks of hot temperatures, just this little storm made it feel like winter again. My wife and I got ready for the start. The Butte to Butte is a 10K run with a nice big hill in the first mile. Our plan was to get up front to get a decent start. My hope was to do a 7:30 first mile. I didn't want to go out to fast and burn out at the end like I usually do.

After getting up to the first mile our time was 8:30. It felt like a 7:30. My wife couldn't believe the time and took off. I tired to keep up with her, but I couldn't. She's way to fast for me.

The rest of the race is downhill and then flat. Lots of people show up for the race which is great for the runners. I finished with a 45:48, around a 7:23 pace. Not a bad pace for me, as I was hoping for a 7 - 7:30 pace.

The only thing I can't believe is how sore my legs were the day after. I haven't had this kind of pain in a long while. My wife too has complained about the tightness in her legs. The only thing that we can come up with is the maybe the weather had something to do with it, as well as possibly coming down the long downhill really pounded us and left is this sore.

Well next up for me is the Butte to Butte 10K run on the fourth of July. That race has been a staple in our community for many, many years, and attracts a lot of runners.

My training has gone a little overboard I'm afraid as I'm feeling like I've been over-training. My first sign was losing my patience over the tiniest of things. Next clue was feeling totally overwhelmed and really tired. I think that I'll take a few days off and take it easy, and see if my emotions can return to normal, (whatever normal really is) and just have fun with the run on Tuesday.
